Partnerships for MedicinePartnerships for Medicine

We believe that the medicine of the future depends on the groundbreaking science of today. The CRG is strongly committed to collaborations with hospitals and clinical research centers to bridge fundamental with translational research.

VHIR (Spain, Barcelona)
The Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) is a public research institute that promotes and develops innovative biomedical research at the University Hospital Vall d'Hebron to improve the quality of healthcare.
The VHIR and the CRG signed a collaboration agreement in 2011 to develop collaborative projects that bridge basic and clinical research, with a specific focus on rare diseases. Continuous scientific exchange allows CRG basic researchers to understand the needs of clinical research and clinical applications, while VHIR clinical researchers can follow closely the progress of basic research and evaluate the exploitation potential for the clinic. Joint VHIR-CRG activities include collaborative projects as well as training courses and programmes.

IDIBAPS (Spain, Barcelona)
The Institut d'Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi I Sunyer (IDIBAPS) is a research centre that combines high-quality clinical research with high-level basic science, in close proximity to the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona. In 2013 the IDIBAPS and CRG signed a collaboration agreement to initiate new collaborative projects and facilitate staff exchanges, especially in the fields of medical genomics and systems medicine.

Joint VHIR-IDIBAPS-IRB-CRG PhD4MD Programme (Spain, Barcelona)
The Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR), the August Pi i Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBAPS), the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona), and the CRG are jointly running a new training programme on research for medical doctors, called PhD4MD. The CRG and the IRB Barcelona are internationally recognized research institutes in life sciences, while the IDIBAPS and the VHIR, associated to the Hospital Clinic and Vall d'Hebron Hospital, respectively, are international leaders in translational research. The long-term goal of the PhD4MD Programme is to train the next generation of physician scientists to drive research and accomplish greater impact on patients through a research career informed by medical insight.

Barcelonaβeta Brain Research Centre (Spain, Barcelona)
The Barcelonaβeta Brain Research Center (BBRC), the research institution of the Pasqual Maragall Foundation (PMF) dedicated to research on Alzheimer’s disease, and the CRG established a joint collaboration to study the genetic modulation of cerebral phenotypes based on genome-wide associations with neuroimaging data, as part of the BBRC´s clinical research programme on Alzheimer´s disease. The collaboration is supported by a grant awarded in 2017 from the Pla Estratègic de Recerca i Innovació en Salut (PERIS) in Catalonia.

EUGIN (Spain, Barcelona)
EUGIN is a private company focused on human reproduction treatment and research on reproductive cell and molecular biology, innovation and implementation. EUGIN and the CRG are developing and running joint projects using their state-of-the-art experimental platforms and computational/bioinformatics approaches, in the field of human reproduction, fertility and sterility.

Banc de Sang i Teixits (Spain, Barcelona)
The Banc de Sang i Teixits (Blood and Tissue Bank) is a public agency of the Catalan Department of Health whose mission is to guarantee the supply and proper use of human blood and tissue in Catalonia. It is also the leading centre in the field of immunodiagnostics and advanced therapy development. The Bank and the CRG have a long-standing collaboration to exchange biological material for research purposes in biomedicine.

Institute for Health Science Research Germans Trias i Pujol (IGTP) (Spain, Badalona)
The Institute for Health Science Research Germans Trias i Pujol (IGTP) and the CNAG-CRG established a collaboration agreement to develop and implement joint research to characterize the genomic variation in the Catalan population, in the framework of the project “GCAT|Genomes for Life, A Prospective Study of the Genomes of Catalonia”.  GCAT is an ambitious initiative in which 50,000 people participate to help researchers answer important questions about our health (prevention and prediction) and the treatment of illnesses.

Parc Taulí Foundation (Spain, Sabadell)
The Parc Taulí Foundation and the CRG collaborate on the research project focusing on the respiratory microbiome in (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) COPD exacerbations. The project is funded by the Health Institute Carlos III in Spain, and in the framework of a larger collaboration with the Barcelona Respiratory Network.
