What does a scientific journal editor do? Insights into Scientific Publishing
We are excited to announce a special Q&A session with Dr. Ilse Valtierra Gutiérrez, an editor from Nature Communications.
Ilse joined Nature Communications in June 2020. She did her PhD at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, where she studied clonal heterogeneity and evolution in acute myeloid leukaemia using genomic and single-cell transcriptomic data. Before that, she obtained her MSc in Molecular Biosciences from Heidelberg University, and her BSc in Genomic Sciences from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Ilse handles manuscripts in cancer omics as well as computational and AI approaches applied to cancer. She is based in the Madrid office.
This event offers a unique opportunity for postdocs and interested PhD students to engage directly with someone working at the interface of research and scientific publishing.
What to expect:
- Learn what the role of a scientific editor involves, both professionally and day to day.
- Gain insights into the editorial and peer-review process “behind the scenes.”
- Ask your own questions about career paths in publishing, how editors view submissions, and the decision-making process at journals
Format: The session will be informal and interactive, with plenty of time for your questions.
