"Fèlix Campelo awarded by the American Physical Society"

Fèlix Campelo awarded by the American Physical SocietyThe CRG post-doctoral researcher Fèlix Campelo has won the 2009 Award for Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Research in Biological Physics from the American Physical Society (APS). His thesis, entitled “Shapes in cells, dynamic instabilities, morphology, and curvature in biological membranes”, was the result of the researcher’s work at the University of Barcelona. The author used the lipid bilayers of the cellular membrane as a model to explain the underlying mechanisms and to understand its structure, shape, elasticity and other parameters from the point of view of physics in biologic membranes.

Currently, Campelo is part of the Intracellular Compartmentation research group in the CRG where he’s working in the study of mechanisms of intracellular transport. Specifically his research focuses in the physical side of the formation of vesicles and other packages to transport proteins within the cell.
