The CRG Health and Safety Office helping kids to learn how to carry a backpack safely

The CRG Health and Safety Office switched from scientists to kids last weekend. Together with the other prevention technical staff at the PRBB centres, they collaborated with the TV program “Una mà de contes” (“A hand of stories”) to organise a workshop entitled “What are you carrying in your backpack?”.

This workshop was held on October 25th and 26th at the Montjuic Olympic Stadium in the framework of “La Festa dels Súpers”, an annual festival organised by the Catalan public television (TV3). “La Festa dels Súpers” is one of the most successful events for kids in which all kinds of activities take place. In this edition, nearly 350,000 people enjoyed the event, where more than 150 free activities and about 50 shows were offered.

The aim of the workshop was to help kids by explaining to them how to organise, load and carry a backpack to prevent overloading and future back problems. Based on learning through having fun, kids were encouraged to pick up some items to load and then were weighed carrying the full bag. They could also check to see if the backpack was well organized by taking a photo of it.

The workshop was inspired by similar ones held by the prevention technical staff of the PRBB centres on several editions of the Open Day and proved to be a great hit with the kids as well as being educational.
