CRG"25 years from the Human Genome Sequence: expectations, past and future. A personal account"Abstract:On Februrary 16, 2001, 25 years ago, the first drafts of the human genome sequence were published. This was the culmination of the Human Genome Project, which started in 1990 aproximately. The most ambitious project in the history of biology was launched under the expectation that it would radically alter our capacity to figth disease. Twenty-five years latter is good time to reflect whether these expectations have been met. As we participate in one of the two competing projects, I will provide a personal perspective.
