COURSES @ CRG: Summer Course Modeling for Systems Biology

Barcelona, Spain
The Summer Course Modeling for Systems Biology aims to provide a broad introduction to systems biology, with a focus on dynamical modeling of networks, to an audience of PhD students and post-docs with a background in biology or bioinformatics. In addition to introducing researchers to new techniques and know-how, this course aims at fostering interactions between students and established figures in the field of systems biology.

Sunday: optional introductory session on elementary calculus and algebra (ordinary differential equations, linear algebra) and an introduction to Matlab. An understanding of these concepts is highly recommended to be able to follow the course itself.

Monday – Friday: theoretical lectures will cover the following topics: dynamical systems theory, stochastic systems, frameworks and methods to model biological networks, multivariate and multidimensional data analysis, techniques for parameter inference, reverse engineering, biophysical and cellular models. All theoretical concepts of the course will be accompanied by a series of hands-on exercises.

Download here the FINAL schedule of the Course.

Our teaching team consists of world-class external investigators, CRG internal teachers and a team of internal PhD and post-docs to provide assistance during practical sessions.

Registration
The number of participants is limited to 24, from which 12 places will be reserved for scientists from the PRBB. The remaining positions will be open to candidates from institutes worldwide. Priority will be given to people with a background in or transitioning to Systems Biology.

Selected participants will be sent an email and asked to reconfirm their attendance no later than 13/04/2012. They will also be asked to pay the registration fees.
General registration fee: 250 EUR (includes participation in workshop, all the necessary tools to follow the course, didactic material, coffee breaks, lunches and welcome dinner on Monday).

Register here before 18/03/2012. All fields are mandatory. In addition, please upload in the "Abstract" field a document with the answers to the three following questions:

  • What are you currently working on? (up to 1000 characters)
  • Why would this course make a difference in your research? (up to 1000 characters)
  • Will you participate in the session on elementary calculus and algebra (Sun 01/07/12)? (Yes or No).
Registrations without abstract will be not taken into account.
