Beginner Cluster Course - (CRG Staff only) 2024

Bioinformatics room (CRG Training centre)

This course is an introduction to the cluster. It will explain the key concepts of a cluster and how to launch a simple job. Some general advice on best practice and practices to be avoided will be covered. 

Topics that are going to be addressed:  

  • Video tour of the data centre 
  • What is a cluster 
  • Logging in 
  • Queuing / the scheduler 
  • What resource are available at the CRG cluster 
  • Simple batch scripts - directives 
  • Troubleshooting - what happened to my jobs? 
  • Interactive sessions 

What NOT to expect:
Specific bioinformatics tools, advanced concepts such as job arrays and job dependencies.

Session 1 

  • Video tour of the data centre 
  • What is a cluster 
  • Logging in 
  • Queuing / the scheduler 
  • What resource are available at the CRG cluster 

Session 2 

  • Simple batch scripts - directives 
  • Troubleshooting - what happened to my jobs? 
  • Interactive sessions
