Have you ever witnessed inappropriate behaviour? Most people want to step in when something isn’t right. But in the moment, hesitation often takes over:

  • Is it my place to say something?
  • What if I make it worse?
  • Will there be repercussions?

Active Bystander Training gives participants the confidence, language and practical techniques to intervene constructively, even when behaviour feels uncomfortable or has become normalised over time. Course aims to equip participants with crucial skills to challenge inappropriate behaviour and stimulate everyone to take an active role in the shaping of a culture of mutual respect and dignity and collectively tackle behaviours that can lead to bullying and harassment across the institute.

Participants will:

  • Understand bystander apathy and the role of the Active Bystander
  • Learn practical techniques to challenge bullying, harassment, micro-aggressions and other inappropriate behaviours
  • Develop decision-making tools to overcome fear and self-doubt when faced with a challenging situation
  • Build the language skills to intervene confidently and appropriately, whether directly or by seeking support
  • Be presented with assertiveness techniques to give the confidence and tools to speak
