The CRG reaches out and works together with other institutes, groups and committees to support and advance gender equality in the research community. Detailed below you will find details on out local, national and international projects including LIBRA, ACT, EU-LIFE, SOMMa, and PRBB WGs.

 

WOMEN FOR AFRICA (Mujeres por África)

The Women for Africa Foundation is a Spanish private, non-profit entity created in February 2012 by María Teresa Fernández de la Vega, the former vice president of the Spanish Government, to promote equal rights and opportunities for women, so they can contribute to the progress of their continent. Since 2016, the CRG is participating to the Science by Women programme to support and increase the scientific and technological capacities of African women. Every year the Foundation offers prestigious fellowships to recognized senior African woman researchers to do a 6-month research internship in one of the participating Severo Ochoa centres of excellence, including the CRG.

EU-LIFE

EU-LIFE is an alliance of top research centres in life sciences to support and strengthen European research excellence and to be a voice for research in European policy. Their commitment to excellence is also a commitment to gender equality which resulted in the collaborative efforts in the EC funded project LIBRA (Oct 2015 - March 2019). To further advance Gender Equality in the institutes and to continue to benefit from the mutual learning amongst the European institutes a new EU-LIFE working group with representatives from each centre was established after the project LIBRA finished.

SOMMa

SOMMa is the alliance of Severo Ochoa Centres and María de Maeztu Units to promote Spanish Excellence in research and to enhance its social impact at national and international levels. The CRG and SoMMa members are exchanging about good practices on Gender Equality, amongst other topics.

PRBB

A cross-institute working group has been established to share learning and good practice in scientific integrity amongst the centres one of the deliverables has been the PRBB Code of Good Scientific Practice, to which all researchers have to comply with. In order to share resources, ideas and good practice specifically in Gender Equality among the centres the PRBB Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee was been set up. The group comprises members from all six institutes and the PRBB itself, including both researchers, management, and administrative staff.

ACT

ACT is a Horizon 2020 project in which the CRG is participating as a disciplinary partner from the life science field and experienced in implementing Gender Equality Plans (GEPs) due to its experience in LIBRA.

ACT seeks to advance gender equality at universities, research centres and research funding organisations by facilitating collaboration between experienced institutions in the implementation of gender equality plans with less experienced ones. The CRG is responsible for setting-up and supporting an Community of Practice (CoP) developing gender equality actions at research performing organizations focusing on life sciences in Europe. The facilitator of the life science CoP is Sonja Reiland, a project manager at the International and Scientific Affairs team at the CRG.

LIBRA

LIBRA is an Horizon 2020 European Commission funded project coordinated at the CRG by the senior scientist and ICREA professor Isabelle Vernos with the objective to advance Gender Equality in the partner institutions through Gender Equality Plans (GEPs).

The partner institutions in LIBRA are the members of the alliance EU-LIFE and the expert organisation on gender (ASDO). LIBRA assessed the policies and procedures to identify gender biases and obstacles in each of the institutes in order to design and finally implement an institute tailored GEP.

GEPs aim to bring about long lasting and profound structural changes to remove institutional barriers and empower women to be equally successful as men in their research careers. The design and implementation of the GEP at the CRG was coordinated by the CRG Gender Balance Committee.
