Courses@CRG: Chromatin and gene regulation - From gene to genome folding

This is an intensive practical course where students will get a broad overview and hands on experience in the field of Chromatin and Gene Regulation, more particularly through genome-wide approaches.

Aims of the course:

To provide doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers with:

  • An overview of major topics in modern molecular biology in the field of Chromatin and Gene Regulation and an overview of different methods to study the three-dimensional organization of the genome.
  • Practical training in the experimental and computational genome-wide approaches that can be used to mechanistically dissect important aspects of chromatin biology, such as Chromosome HiC, ATACseq, ChIPseq and RNAseq.
  • The appropriate computational methods required to analyse data obtained in the experimental part of the course.

Structure of the course:

The course will include lectures combined with the practical classes.

The lectures will provide general principles and use the main achievements of the participating groups to illustrate the approaches and implications of gene regulation. Several internationally renowned researchers in the field will lecture.

The practical classes will allow the students to gain hands-on experience with Chromatin-Immunoprecipitation (ChIP) and in silico analysis of ChiPseq and its association with ATACseq RNAsequencing (RNA-seq). An introduction to 3D-Modeling structure of chromatin will be presented.
