IDIBELL-CRG: Joining forces in biomedical research

Ramón y Cajal room (CRG)

18/05/2016
This networking event aims to bring together basic and translational/clinical researchers from different fields and institutes (IDIBELL and CRG) to explore and discuss new collaboration opportunities and found the basis for future joint activities and projects.

The Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL) is an emerging research institution established in 2004 and formed by Catalan Ministry of Economy and Knowledge (DEC), the University Hospital of Bellvitge (HUB), the Hospital of Viladecans (HV), the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO) and the University of Barcelona's Faculties of Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry and Podiatry (UB) and is located in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, south of Barcelona. . IDIBELL articulates its research into 9 Research Programs organized into 3 main areas; Cancer Area: Molecular Mechanisms and Experimental Therapy in Oncology Program, Cancer Epigenetics and Biology Program, and Epidemiology, Public Health, Cancer Prevention and Palliative Care Program; Neuroscience Area: Neuroscience Program; and Translational Medicine Area: Diabetes and Metabolism Program, Genes, Disease and Therapy Program, Cardiovascular, Respiratory, Systemic Diseases and Cellular Aging Program, Infectious Diseases and Transplantation Program and Digestive System, Diagnosis, Pharmacogenetics, Care Support and Clinical Prevention Program.

The Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) is an international biomedical research institute of excellence, created in December 2000. The CRG believes that the medicine of the future depends on the groundbreaking science of today. This requires an interdisciplinary scientific team focused on understanding the complexity of life from the genome to the cell to a whole organism and its interaction with the environment, offering an integrated view of genetic diseases. Research at the CRG is organized into four interconnected programmes. It includes Bioinformatics and Genomics, Cell and Developmental Biology, Gene Regulation, Stem Cells and Cancer and Systems Biology. The CRG also includes the National Centre for Genomic Analysis (CNAG) that carries out projects in DNA sequencing and analysis.

Format:
The meeting will include:

1.    Institutional Presentations about both institutes by their Directors (Dr. Jaume Reventós from IDIBELL and Dr. Luis Serrano from CRG).
2.    One success story of previous IDIBELL-CRG collaboration, in which researchers from both institutes present their joint project, and highlight opportunities and challenges of their collaboration.
3.    Presentations by two selected researchers from each institute.
4.    Presentations about Core facilities of each institute to raise awareness of the available technologies in both centres and the different applications and support they can offer.
