CRG is open in order to...

The Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) participates in the Open Access Week, an international initiative to highlight the power of Open Access. This year’s theme is “Open in Order to…”, which is meant to move the discussion beyond talking about openness itself and instead focus on what openness enables—in an individual discipline, at a particular institution, or in a specific context; then to take action to realize these benefits. The theme also recognizes the diverse contexts and communities within which the shift to Open Access is occurring and encourages specific discussion that will be most effective locally.

CRG joined this initiative by issuing videos with statements about Open Access from three different angles. Michela Bertero, head of the CRG International and Scientific Affairs Office and coordinator of the EU project ORION, highlighted that open access is key to involve different stakeholders while building more trust in science. Toni Hermoso, bioinformatician at the CRG Bioinformatics Unit, believes that it is an excellent way to facilitate collaboration among scientists and to engage citizens into participation. Guillaume Filion, CRG group leader, pointed at open access as best way towards an efficient scientific system.

We also contributed to the OpenAIRE webinar series, in which Toni Hermoso and Guillaume Filion hosted one of the webinars on 24 October, in collaboration with #CRGtraining and the Foster+ project.
