Arcadi Navarro joins the Royal Academy of Sciences and Arts of Barcelona as a full academic member (14/06/2024)
The full professor and researcher at UPF, the IBE and the CRG, who also directs the Pasqual Maragall Foundation and research centre, is the first expert in data sciences in biology to join the Academy.

First datasets available in the Federated EGA Network  (29/02/2024)
In February 2024, a great milestone was reached for the human omics data community: the first datasets are now available in the Federated European Genome-phenome Archive (FEGA). These datasets - hosted by national nodes in Poland, Norway, and Sweden - are discoverable in the EGA portal and accessible according to national laws.

Researchers identify twenty-five genetic changes that could have extended human lifespan (04/09/2018)
A new method has made it possible to identify twenty-five parallel mutations located in genes associated with wound healing, blood coagulation and cardiovascular disorders. The results could help to develop new drugs to treat ageing-related diseases. The research confirms the theory that some genes that help us in the initial stages of life are harmful to us once the reproductive stage has ended.

Translational research community debates on the EGA and its impact on health (13/04/2018)
Medical genomics, an emerging discipline already being used for diagnosis and treatment of rare diseases and some types of cancer, requires close cooperation between research centres and hospitals. The European Genome-Phenome Archive (EGA), located in the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) and the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) is the repository of genomic data of reference in Europe, guaranteeing safety and allowing their use in research.

UK Biobank partners with the EGA (19/07/2017)
UK Biobank has established a partnership with the European Genome–phenome Archive (EGA), a joint resource developed by EMBL-EBI and the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG).

Big data to pave the way for precision medicine in Alzheimer’s disease and lung cancer (30/06/2017)
CRG researchers participate in the IASIS project, which is a new European research project aiming to turn health data into personalised treatments for Alzheimer’s disease and lung cancer patients.

Datasets archived at the EGA allowed scientists to identify new developmental disorders (21/01/2017)
The largest-ever genetic study of children with previously undiagnosed rare developmental disorders has discovered 14 new developmental disorders. The research, led by scientists at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, has been published today in Nature. The research also provided diagnoses of rare conditions for over a thousand children and their families.

Summary

The EGA Team at the CRG co-manages the European Genome and phenome Archive together with the EGA Team at the European Bioinformatics Institute. In addition to maintaining and distributing data, we enrich the contents of the EGA contributing with our knowledge about genomics and the relationship between genomes and phenomes.

Research such as the conducted in the Navarro lab at the UPF, together with the local expertise of many genomics researchers synergizes with the EGA to make it a better service for the scientific community World-wide.
