El sueño de las células madre: su uso como tratamiento de enfermedades

El sueño de las células madre: su uso como tratamiento de enfermedades

In the framework of the EuroStemCell meeting (European project), held on 26th-27th April 2012 at the CRG, we have organized this public event, a public dialogue about the real problems of stem cell research.

Chair:

Michela Bertero, Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG)

Speakers:

Luis Vivanco Sierralta, Bioethics Platform, Biomedical Research Centre of La Rioja (CIBIR)

CRG Scientific Coffee: "What is known about rare diseases?"

WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT RARE DISEASES?

Have you heard of Huntington's chorea, the fragile X syndrome or Noonan syndrome?

Do you know what a rare disease is?
Do you know how many types of rare diseases are there?
Did you know that in Spain there are over 3 million people affected by rare diseases?
How are patients and families organized to share questions and concerns?
Which role does research play currently in this context?

Invited speakers:

EASY SCIENCE CONFERENCE SERIES: Cellular reprogramming: a real tool of regenerative medicine?

Cellular reprogramming: a real tool of regenerative medicine?

In recent years, there have been numerous studies of how adult cells of our body can be turn back into stem cells (i.e. those that have the potential to become any type of adult cell). A skin cell, for example, can be "induced" (converted) into a stem cell again, and then be transformed into a cell of another tissue (muscle, nerve, blood, etc.).

V CRG PhD Students Symposium

The V CRG PhD Students Symposium is a CRG internal symposium with the aim to provide a platform for the young scientists working at the CRG. All 2nd year students will give a short talk focusing on the main question they want to address in their PhD and how they are planning to do this. In addition posters of 3rd year students will give an overview of work that is being carried out in our institute.

Easy Science: "Genome complexity and medicine: illness prediction gets complicated"

Easy Science Conference: "Genome complexity and medicine: illness prediction gets complicated"

The study of the genome through sequencing produces an enormous quantity of data. This data is analysed by bioinformatics researchers dedicated to the management and analysis of all of the information obtained when a genome is sequenced via, for example, mathematical, biological, computer and statistical tools.
