"The CRG will coordinate two CONSOLIDER-INGENIO 2010 projects"

The CRG will coordinate two CONSOLIDER-INGENIO 2010 projects13 projects have been awarded in the last call for CONSOLIDER projects of the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation. Two of these projects will be coordinated by the CRG researchers Vivek Malhotra and Juan Valcarcel. These projects have been assigned 4,2 and 4,7 million Euros respectively. On the one hand, Vivek Malhotra will coordinate a study that tries to understand the mechanisms of protein secretion and transport within the cell, particularly focusing on bulky proteins and their relation with some pathologies. The project is titled “Mechanisms of protein secretion and compartment organization”. This work will be developed in collaboration with the following Spanish institutes and universities: Universidad de Murcia (UM), Universitat de Barcelona (UB), Institut d’Investigació Biomèdica August Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS), Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares (CNIC), Centro de Biología Molecular Severo Ochoa (CBM-UAM), Centro Andaluz de Biología Molecular y Medicina Regenerativa (CABIMER), and Instituto de Biología Molecular de Barcelona (IBMB-CSIC).The project led by Juan Valcárcel consists of studying post-transcriptional regulation and its role in tumour biology from an interdisciplinary point of view. In this project, the CRG will work together with the following institutes and universities: Fundación para la Investigación Médica Aplicada (CIMA), Fundación para la Investigación Biomédica en Córdoba, Centro de Biología Molecular Severo Ochoa (CBM-CSIC), Universitat de Barcelona (UB), Institut de Recerca Biomèdica de Barcelona (IRB), Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF), Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Oncológicas Carlos III (CNIO), and Institut de Recerca de l’Hospital Universitari Vall d’Hebrón.
