The majority of projects will fail due to lack of efficacy or because of safety concerns. This could happen at multiple stages but the later it is, the more expensive is the failure. Therefore, the choice of drug targets is very important since the outcome might not be known for many years. We have shown that using human genetics information may increase the chance of success in the clinic for new drug targets. In addition, the new functional genomics technologies that can be used at genome scale provide an opportunity to identify new drug targets. For example, we have used genome wide CRISPR screens in 100s of cancer cell lines to identify new potential drug targets. In this talk, I will describe how we are driving the discovery of new genes and pathways to identify new drugs using genetics and genomics in combination with computational biology techniques.
