30/06/202312:00MARIE CURIEPRBB-CRG SessionsMagdalena Zernicka-GoetzMammalian Embryo and Stem Cell Groups, University of Cambridge and the California Institute of Technology"Building Embryo Models from Stem Cells to Understand Self-Organization"Host: Thomas GrafAbstract:The speaker will talk about her lab's work to establish methods for culturing human embryos beyond implantation in vitro, until day 14, and how results coming from this enabled them to establish methods through which multiple stem cell types derived from embryonic and extra-embryonic tissues can be directly assembled into embryo-like structures. She will detail how they are using these first complete “synthetic embryos” to recapitulate development beyond gastrulation to the neurulation stages, bringing insight into the cellular and molecular mechanisms that control previously unexplored aspects of early mammalian development.
