This presentation will provide an in-depth exploration of the structure of collagen, focusing on the variations in supramolecular assemblies of collagen across different tissues. I will discuss why collagen is regarded as a well-established material for tissue engineering applications, highlighting its versatility and effectiveness.
A significant portion of the presentation will address the challenges associated with chronic wounds and the innovative strategies developed by our research group for creating collagen and collagen-peptide-based materials for their treatment. I will present evidence on the superior efficacy of collagen-peptide materials in managing chronic wounds and their notable effectiveness in treating ulcerative colitis. Additionally, the presentation will showcase the advantages of collagen-peptide materials over traditional collagen-based biomaterials in regenerative applications, emphasizing their potential to advance tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. I will discuss our ongoing efforts to develop affordable collagen biomaterials for cardiac surgical applications, such as aortic valves, underscoring our commitment to making high-quality medical treatments more accessible.
